Our big, happy GURIA family takes a field trip!

Yesterday on the day of Chatt Pooja, Guria took the NFE Shivdaspur Center and some children from the Boat School on a field trip to a beautiful waterfall location! Spirits were high, and the long bus rides there and back were filled with joyful screams, laughter, and plenty of singing. The children swam and played in the fresh river water, and it was a wonderful day of fun and celebration. We are so grateful to have such a loving community. This trip will surely be looked back on with a smile by all!

On March 18 th , 2015, Guria launched the FREEDOM NOW Global Art Exchange & Exhibit! 39 s chools around the world (in A ngola, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Montenegro, Romania, Senegal, South Africa, Switzerland, and the U.S. ) educate d students about human trafficking, create d art about human trafficking, exchange d their art with each other around the globe, and finally put on student art exhibits in their respective schools. With the schools permission, we have compiled an online album of 66 paintings, containing at least one painting from each school. Now we are sharing the album with all of you ! When resources allow us, we will get this published and send it to all the schools that participated. We hope this act of solidarity of hundreds of children/students worldwide will grab the attention of the globe, and demand that real action be taken against human trafficking. Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting human trafficking and forced prostitution in Northern India. Based in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, we respond to immediate suffering and investigate the root causes of prostitution, poverty and inequality. We believe in a multi-faceted approach to fighting this deeply entrenched problem. We are involved in legal aid and intervention, victim rescue and rehabilitation, NFE (non-formal education) centers in the red light areas of Varanasi and Mau, a boat school on the Ganges River, police sensitization programmes, rural womens’ empowerment, activism and research. We strongly believe that through grassroots and prevention work, it is possible to end this modern form of slavery.

Freedom Now 2018 | Varanasi Red-Light Area Center

On February 20, 2018, Guria hosted it’s fourth annual Worldwide FREEDOM NOW Art Exchange and Exhibit. The exhibit at the Varanasi red-light area education center was a success! To date, we have had 86 schools from 15 different countries take part in Guria’s Freedom Now art campaign, and more schools using curriculum resources in their classrooms!
