UPDATE - Allahabad red light area rescue with a national record of 61 brothels seized : Hon’ble Supreme Court stayed the order of the Allahabad Session Court which released the rescued girls. The new Princeton University, USA interns visit the red light area education centre in Varanasi.

Last week Ajeet Singh from Guria was the resource person for the training of trainers (TOT) programme for SSB (indo-nepal border force) at sector headquarters Lakhimpur and Gorakhpur under the guidance of IG Frontier headquarter, SSB Lucknow and UNICEF.

The UNICEF team from Belgium along with the UNICEF UP state office visited the Guria's children centre in the red light area of varanasi and saw the efforts to empower children. The team also visited the government after care home for girls where Guria is placed as a mentor by the government to replicate our efforts.

In the public interest litigation no. 824/2016 Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan vs State of UP & Others, the State of Uttar Pradesh has issued a government order for constitution of a Medical Board to determine the age of juvenile. The board will be headed by Chief Medical Officer as the Chairman and will consist of 3 other members namely Orthopaedist, Radiologist and Dental Surgeon in every district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This will immensely help the victims of Rape and Sex trafficking who were mostly denied justice because of corruption. 

This week, students from the university of Wisconsin visited our education center in Shivdaspur, the red light area of Varanasi. Guria has been connected with the University of Wisconsin for many years. 

Pallavi Khare's art exhibition, Unspoken, was featured in The Times of India, New Delhi. Thank you Pallavi for donating the proceeds from your exhibition of art work in Delhi from 9th-11th September.  The entire donation will  be tripled by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dia Mirza is  an Indian model, actress and producer, who won the Miss Asia Pacific 2000 title. On 11 June, she visited  with the children of Guria boat school. She participated with the children in meditation, painting, and singing.

For the third time we have the pleasure to welcome a french team of volunteers from PSB Paris School of Business ! They are here to bring their support to our work and continue to improve the living conditions of the children. Here is a little sum up of their actions for Guria : - Cleaning and creating theater. - Making wrist band. - Sponsoring a hand pump. - Teaching at the boat school and red light area center. - Taking the children to the water park. - Practicing different activities such as wall painting, dancing and different games

India's Minister for Women and Child Development unveiled a draft of the country's first ever comprehensive anti-human trafficking law on 30th may 2016. The minister, in her speech, also praised GURIA for its support in drafting the legislation as the member of the Inter-Ministerial committee. On 7th april 2016 Guria rescued 2 child bonded labours (carpet industry), of West Bengal state, from the district of Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh.

Today, South Texas College screened "Specks of Dust" at their Human Trafficking Conference. The film was followed by a Q&A session with Ajeet Singh over Skype. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow submitted a " A REPORT OF SOCIAL AUDIT OF CHILD CARE CARE INSTITUTIONS (CCI's ) IN THE STATE OF UTTAR PRADESH" to the department of women and child development, Government of Uttar Pradesh. In this Report Guria's open shelter for children scored - A GRADE (excellent).
