UPDATE - Allahabad red light area rescue with a national record of 61 brothels seized : Hon’ble Supreme Court stayed the order of the Allahabad Session Court which released the rescued girls. In the public interest litigation no. 824/2016 Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan vs State of UP & Others, the State of Uttar Pradesh has issued a government order for constitution of a Medical Board to determine the age of juvenile. The board will be headed by Chief Medical Officer as the Chairman and will consist of 3 other members namely Orthopaedist, Radiologist and Dental Surgeon in every district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This will immensely help the victims of Rape and Sex trafficking who were mostly denied justice because of corruption. 

This week, students from the university of Wisconsin visited our education center in Shivdaspur, the red light area of Varanasi. Guria has been connected with the University of Wisconsin for many years.

Twenty teachers under the FULBRIGHT Fellowship from the U.S. visited the Guria children centre in the redlight area of varanasi. This was an effort by the educators to explore issues, challenges and strategies related to guria's struggle against sex trafficking and child prostitution. Giancarlo Malchiodi from the Fulbright group wrote:  Positivity Check: Guria -- "We are a center that creates human beings who love, with love." (No facial photos of children to both respect their privacy and their personal safety). Power-team Ajeet and Manju (husband and wife) provide a safe space, enrichment, and emotional therapy to children of sex workers who, in some cases, have been trafficked themselves (and, in either case, are traumatized by the experience). Dia Mirza is  an Indian model, actress and producer, who won the Miss Asia Pacific 2000 title. On 11 June, she visited  with the children of Guria boat school. She participated with the children in meditation, painting, and singing.

For the third time we have the pleasure to welcome a french team of volunteers from PSB Paris School of Business ! They are here to bring their support to our work and continue to improve the living conditions of the children. Here is a little sum up of their actions for Guria : - Cleaning and creating theater. - Making wrist band. - Sponsoring a hand pump. - Teaching at the boat school and red light area center. - Taking the children to the water park. - Practicing different activities such as wall painting, dancing and different games

India's Minister for Women and Child Development unveiled a draft of the country's first ever comprehensive anti-human trafficking law on 30th may 2016. The minister, in her speech, also praised GURIA for its support in drafting the legislation as the member of the Inter-Ministerial committee. THANK YOU Mathew and Jennifer : On March 24, 2016, the Specks of Dust documentary produced by Azza Cohen and Shaina Waterous was shown to a group of approximately 100 guests in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As part of the event, there was a silent auction with items that were donated from many individuals and business in the community. We also had Indian snacks donated .Mathew and Jennifer were able to raise $12,500 Canadian dollars to help support Guria in its fight against human trafficking.
