Contempt of Court Filed against the Superintendent of Police Ghazipur, UP

Guria Rescues a Trafficked Minor Girl in Murshidabad District

During Guria’s routine vigilance a stakeholder from West Bengal State helped us to identify a case of a trafficked minor girl from Murshidabad district. We investigated this case and finally rescued the minor girl from Bijnaur district of Uttar Pradesh state on October 14th 2015 with the help of local police - almost 2000 km away.

40 Laborers Rescued From Brick Kiln Declared Bonded by the Labor Department

After three months long follow up, the statement of 40 labors rescued from a brick kiln at Varanasi was recorded by the labor department and they were declared bonded. After the application was moved for rescue in June 2015, these bonded labors had been forcibly thrown out of the brick kiln by the owner since the rescue information leaked. 

Director General of Policy Ordered to Rectify Deficiencies in Victim Report Records

In one of guria’s new Public Interest Litigations, the hon’ble Chief Justice asked the Director General of Police and principal secretary to ensure that all deficiencies are rectified and that no short fall remains. in terms of whether first information report was recorded by a woman constable & videographed, complaints were registered at the convenient places in case of disabled women informants and if action was taken against police officers failing to lodge the complaints o f women victims of sexual violence. The hon’ble high court also permitted the petitioner (Guria) to evaluate the data submitted by the state and file a response. This has once again established the credibility of Guria on the issue of sex slavery.

State Responds to Guria's Public Interest Litigation by Amending Rules of Victim Compensation Funds

In compliance to the order in the Public Interest Litigation filed by Guria, the State has now amended the rules for victim compensation fund by including victims of offences under sections 7, 9 and 11 of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act after approval from the cabinet.

Fake Case Filed Against Guria by Police and Labor Department

In order to save their skin and dilute Guria's efforts, labor department and police filed a fake case against Guria staff after the rescued bonded labors were re-trafficked by brick kiln owners in collusion with the labor department. The hon’ble Supreme Court has ordered stay on any further legal proceedings in this case on Guria’s special appeal - a boon for human rights defenders in india.
