Last week Ajeet Singh from Guria was the resource person for the training of trainers (TOT) programme for SSB (indo-nepal border force) at sector headquarters Lakhimpur and Gorakhpur under the guidance of IG Frontier headquarter, SSB Lucknow and UNICEF.

The UNICEF team from Belgium along with the UNICEF UP state office visited the Guria's children centre in the red light area of varanasi and saw the efforts to empower children. The team also visited the government after care home for girls where Guria is placed as a mentor by the government to replicate our efforts.

In the public interest litigation no. 824/2016 Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan vs State of UP & Others, the State of Uttar Pradesh has issued a government order for constitution of a Medical Board to determine the age of juvenile. The board will be headed by Chief Medical Officer as the Chairman and will consist of 3 other members namely Orthopaedist, Radiologist and Dental Surgeon in every district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This will immensely help the victims of Rape and Sex trafficking who were mostly denied justice because of corruption. 

This week, students from the university of Wisconsin visited our education center in Shivdaspur, the red light area of Varanasi. Guria has been connected with the University of Wisconsin for many years. 

Pallavi Khare's art exhibition, Unspoken, was featured in The Times of India, New Delhi. Specks of Dust premiered in New York City with great success!

Today, South Texas College screened "Specks of Dust" at their Human Trafficking Conference. The film was followed by a Q&A session with Ajeet Singh over Skype. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow submitted a " A REPORT OF SOCIAL AUDIT OF CHILD CARE CARE INSTITUTIONS (CCI's ) IN THE STATE OF UTTAR PRADESH" to the department of women and child development, Government of Uttar Pradesh. In this Report Guria's open shelter for children scored - A GRADE (excellent).

The department of women and child development of the state of UP gave us the task to work with the children of the after care home at varanasi. Guria’s holistic experiment has already set a model which is now being replicated by other homes of the state of Uttar Pradesh in north india. The whole idea is to work on the self by taking the child into the world of inward journey through the tool of Art – painting, music, dance, theatre, photography, videography, shouting class , laughing class, meditation, gardening, feeding the birds etc and connect them to the entire existence around us. We are greatful to the Principal Secretary Ms Renuka Kumar and the Probation officer Mr Prabhat Ranjan for giving us this opportunity.

On 29th march 2016 Guria rescued 36 bonded laborers of chhattisgarh state from the district of unnao in uttar pradesh.The District Magistrate and the Sub divisional Magistrate were very cooperative in the rescue operation.

On 21st march 2016 Guria rescued 57 bonded labours of chhattisgarh state from the district of maharajganj in uttar pradesh( from the Indo-Nepal border).Since the labour department did not cooperate, the district magistrate was kind enough to take the matter into his own hands and get the statements recorded in his supervision. ‪#‎ humanrights‬   ‪#‎ humantrafficking‬   ‪#‎ slavery‬   ‪#‎ freedomnow‬   ‪#‎ Guria‬   ‪#‎ justice‬ ‪#‎ bondedlabour‬   ‪#‎ forcedlabour‬   ‪#‎ rescue‬

Guria Center welcomes Holi, the Festival of Colors and Spring! The Center kids enjoyed a fun afternoon of running around and throwing vibrant colored powder. 

We're happy to share that on March 14th, Guria was awarded the "Nari Shakti" Award by the honorable President of India, and later in the evening, the Prime Minister of India invited Ajeet Singh over for tea and discussion.
