Awards and Achievements


  • Rescued 841 minor girls from the brothels of sex traffickers
  • Pursued 423 criminal cases against 1047 human traffickers and 238 paralegal cases.
  • Brought 343 bail rejections of human traffickers
  • 106 minor girls have been given witness protection to safeguard them from the traffickers so that they are able to fearlessly testify in front of the court
  • 83 trafficked girls have been been livelyhood support so that they can continue on with their lives
  • In October 2012, Guria attended the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime in Vienna
  • Success in partial breakdown of the criminal nexus between police, politicians, pimps, brothel-keepers, and traffickers
  • Achieved a judgment in Supreme Court against giving bail to human traffickers. The Court agreed that many times the victims of human trafficking were wrongly accused and the police and courts sometimes fail to differentiate between the rescued victims and the traffickers
  • Awareness creation through the Pearls of Love and worldwide Freedom Now concert series
  • Gained support from the film personalities Shabana Azmi,Anand Patwardhan, Late Kaifi Azmi, Shaukat Azmi, Mahesh Bhatt, Tanuja Chandra, Sayeed Mirza, and Khairnar
  • Held the longest foot march (800 km) from Varanasi to Nithari Padyatra against trafficking with victim families
  • Creation of the first child-prostitute free red light areas in Shivdaspur in Varanasi


  • Selected as a member of the Central Advisory Committee and State Advisory Committee on Combating Trafficking of Women and Children
  • Garnered support from the UN Economic and Social Council report on Human Rights Defenders in 2006, Asian Human Rights Commission in Hong Kong, Frontline in Ireland, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Lawyer's Rights Watch in Canada, UN Rapporteurs on Trafficking and State of Children, and the UN Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders in Geneva
  • Sensitized judiciary and police through National Legal Services Authority of India and NIPCCD. 
  • Invited for suggestions by the parliament standing committee on the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Amendment Bill in 2006
  • Invited by J.P. Dutta, the producer of the Ummraojaan film, to the release of the film which deals with trafficking. Dutta offered donations to Guria which were collected by auctioning off costumed of Aishwarya Rai (Miss World)
  • Built Civil Society Support Groups against forced prostitution and trafficking in about 80 villages of 6 districts
  • Named a resource for the Liberal International Conference and the UN GIFT
  • Integration into the Bedia Village (community involved in family based prostitution) of MP state
  • Member in 2 inquiry committees set up by the National Commission for Women 
  • Visited by 11 US Congress and State Department members in August 2010 
  • Founder, Ajeet Singh, declared Asian of the Year 2010 by the news Asian Channel in Singapur, 1 of 5 finalists for Frontline Award for human rights defenders, Real Heroes award recipient in 2011, and The Week's Man of the Year in 2011.
