Belgian and UP UNICEF Teams visit Guria

The UNICEF team from Belgium along with the UNICEF UP state office visited the Guria's children centre in the red light area of varanasi and saw the efforts to empower children. The team also visited the government after care home for girls where Guria is placed as a mentor by the government to replicate our efforts.

Advance in Medical Care

In the public interest litigation no. 824/2016 Guria Swayam Sevi Sansthan vs State of UP & Others, the State of Uttar Pradesh has issued a government order for constitution of a Medical Board to determine the age of juvenile. The board will be headed by Chief Medical Officer as the Chairman and will consist of 3 other members namely Orthopaedist, Radiologist and Dental Surgeon in every district of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This will immensely help the victims of Rape and Sex trafficking who were mostly denied justice because of corruption. 

University of Wisconsin Students Visit Guria Center

This week, students from the university of Wisconsin visited our education center in Shivdaspur, the red light area of Varanasi. Guria has been connected with the University of Wisconsin for many years.

Fulbright Fellowship teachers visit Guria Center

Twenty teachers under the FULBRIGHT Fellowship from the U.S. visited the Guria children centre in the redlight area of varanasi. This was an effort by the educators to explore issues, challenges and strategies related to guria's struggle against sex trafficking and child prostitution. Giancarlo Malchiodi from the Fulbright group wrote:  Positivity Check: Guria -- "We are a center that creates human beings who love, with love." (No facial photos of children to both respect their privacy and their personal safety). Power-team Ajeet and Manju (husband and wife) provide a safe space, enrichment, and emotional therapy to children of sex workers who, in some cases, have been trafficked themselves (and, in either case, are traumatized by the experience). Their mission began some years ago when Manju saw a girl of about seven working the slum streets, saying to her husband "We must do something about this."
