As part of its continued effort to raise awareness, Guria organized a meeting with victim families from five districts. These meetings have the dual objectives of putting the families in touch and becoming one cohesive, communicative group, and of discussing further updates in their respective cases.

In Dullahpur region of Ghazipur district, Guria organized an awareness campaign through a cultural program that featured folk artists. These cultural programs are an important part of Guria’s work to create a community that supports each other in the villages.

Because the Indo-Nepal border is so porus, the communities along the border are easily used as transit areas for traffickers. Villagers from Indian villages on the border may not be able to recognize trafficking when Nepali girls are trafficked and brought through their villages.  Guria works with communities along the border to spread awareness about trafficking so that incidents can be more easily recognized and reported.

Guria has organized an ongoing campaign in schools in Siddharthanagar and Maharajganj, two districts on the Indo-Nepal border. Guria selects schools near the border and organizes painting or sports competitions to make the children aware of trafficking so that they can spread the information back to their families.  The school campaign also serves to create a network between teachers from schools in these districts.

Once a trafficking crime is recognized it is crucial that the matter be understood and handled appropriately by the local authorities. To that effect, Guria conducts sensitization meetings with the  Seema Souraksha Bal  (the Indo/Nepal Border Police), Non-Governmental Organisations and Community-Based Organizations, the police, the media, and with lawyers.  Guria took the girls of the Mau Non-Formal Education Centre to Sarnath, where they visited the Stupa, played in the park, saw the animals at the zoo and feasted on ice-cream!
